First press conference of new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Portugal, Dr. Morteza Damanpak Jami

Dr. Morteza Damanpak Jami, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Portugal, on Tuesday, 23 July 2019, held an informal press conference with members of the country's broadcast and print media, taking questions from journalists on a variety of issues including bilateral relations between the two countries, the impact of unilateral US sanctions on relations between Iran and Europe, ongoing developments in the Persian Gulf region, the implementation process of the nuclear agreement, and provided a number of priorities to be carried out during his mandate as head of mission.

Referring to the five-century old historic relationship between Iran and Portugal and the continuous political, cultural, commercial and people-to-peoplerelations between the two countries throughout this long historical period, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran considered the relationship between the two countries to be based on mutual friendship, respect and common interests.

Having praised the balanced positions of Portugal regarding the relations between Iran and the European Union at different levels, Dr. Morteza Damanpak Jami expressed his hope that, in spite of the negative impact of the cruel and illegal sanctions imposed by the United States on economic relations between Iran and Europe, with the support of the Portuguese officials and relevant institutions and in pursuit of removal of existing obstacles, relations between different sectors of the economy of the two countries will be expanded more than ever.
